What is EMDR?

EMDR therapy, which stands for desensitization and reprocessing with eye movements in Turkish, is an effective psychotherapy method in healing the symptoms of individuals as a result of their disturbing life experiences and getting rid of their emotional distress.

How is EMDR applied?

EMDR therapy is not hypnosis or drug therapy. This therapy uses the brain's adaptive information processing mechanism. By moving the eyes from right to left, bidirectional stimulation is given to the hemispheres of the brain. Likewise, with headphones, sound can be made by vibrating hands. In children, it is usually done by touching the knees and shoulders.

Preparatory work is done before starting EMDR therapy. The client is asked to visualize the memory in his mind. With the memory, emotions are concentrated. EMDR works with the future as it works with the past. Re-process past memories and work towards the future in order not to trigger negative emotions.
