What is Mental Trauma?
We call psychic trauma to the effects of extreme frightening, horror, desperation, and often unusual and unexpected events. There are many events in human life that cause distress and sadness, but not all of them create spiritual trauma.
Events causing mental trauma

Disasters (earthquake, flood, fire)
◾️Assault, rape, torture
◾️ Accidents (business, traffic)
◾️ Domestic violence
Childhood abuse
Unexpected deaths
◾️ Serious-fatal diseases
Although not everyone is affected equally by an event that we can call traumatic, some reactions occur after the event occurs. If these reactions continue for more than 1 month, it is called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can be in 4 areas as emotional, physical, behavioral and cognitive:
Emotional Reactions:
⦁ Anxiety and fear
⦁ Sadness
⦁ Guilt, helplessness
⦁ Quick anger
⦁ Deny what happened
⦁ Not feeling safe
⦁ Rapid emotional changes
⦁ Pessimism about the future
Physical Responses:
⦁ Headache
Nausea
⦁ Shivering
⦁ Feeling of tightness in the chest
⦁ Feeling of overstimulation
⦁ Increase or decrease in appetite
Behavioral Reactions:
⦁ Showing sudden behavior
⦁ Always on the move
⦁ Don't be easily scared, startle
⦁ Eating problems
Relationship problems
⦁ Withdrawal, getting away from social environments
⦁ Avoiding reminders about the event (place, person, etc.)
Cognitive Reactions:
⦁ Forgetfulness
⦁ Inattention and difficulty focusing
⦁ Sleep problems, nightmares
⦁ Impairments in thought processes, repetitive thoughts
⦁ Questioning your beliefs
⦁ Repetitive scenes (flashbacks) related to the moment of the event
⦁ Self-perception, time and space related disruptions (dissociations)
